Cathedral of St. John the Divine
1047 Amsterdam Avenue
New York, NY 10025

Join us at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine as Dean Winnie Varghese hosts an important interfaith conversation with Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, offering insights on the Prologue of the Gospel of John (“In the beginning was the Word….and the Word became flesh”) from a Jewish and a Christian perspective. Along with exploring themes such as light, life, incarnation, and the nature of the divine, they will also discuss the misunderstandings that lead to both antisemitic and anti-Christian biblical interpretation and the corrections that history can provide for improving Jewish-Christian relations.

Amy-Jill Levine is Rabbi Stanley M. Kessler Distinguished Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Hartford International University for Religion and Peace and University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies Emerita at Vanderbilt University. She is a world-renowned scholar of biblical studies and Jewish-Christian relations and recipient of the 2023 Hubert Walter Award for Interfaith Cooperation from the Archbishop of Canterbury.
