WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY

Selection of the Theme:
The theme and text for each year’s observance of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity are chosen and prepared by representatives of the World Council of Churches and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. The preparatory work on the theme for this year’s week of prayer material was undertaken by a group of representatives of different Christian communities in Indonesia. This ecumenical group was brought together by the Communion of Churches in Indonesia under the leadership of Rev. Dr Henriette T. Hutabarat Lebang, and the Indonesian Catholic Bishops’ Conference under the leadership of Archbishop Ignatius Suharyo. We wish to express our gratitude to the leaders of Communion of Churches in Indonesia and the Indonesian Catholic Bishops’ Conference and those who contributed to these resources:
Representatives of a variety of Indonesian church communities were asked to select the theme and the experience of their work. Their reflections form the basis of the materials offered for the eight days of the Octave. We wish to extend our gratitude in particular to:

The materials of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2019 were presented by the local group to an international team sponsored jointly by the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity (PCPCU). At this meeting, held at the PGI’s Guest House in Jakarta in September of 2017, the draft text was edited and finalized.
The Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute, in its planning of these resource materials also invites ecumenists and church leaders of various religious traditions to contribute resource materials for celebrating the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Acknowledgment of these authors appears with their text.
In addition, acknowledgment is due to those who contributed in particular to various segments of these resources.
