2013 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity invites the whole Christian community throughout the world to pray in communion with the prayer of Jesus "that they all may be one" (John 17:21) The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity was first observed in1908 and continues to be celebrated annually from January 18-25.

The search for visible unity cannot be disassociated from concern for the poorest of the poor. It is in this context that this year's theme was chosen in order to explore the well known biblical text of Micah 6:6-8. 'What does God require of us?" Micah's strong call to justice and peace forms the theme of this year's Week of Prayer for Christian Unity as it sets justice and peace within the history of the relationship between God and humanity.

For 2013, this theme from Micah requires us to ask ourselves what God truly requires of us in our quest for Christian Unity. Please join us as we pray for and strive together to answer Micah's question in the movement towards the full visible unity of the Church.
