The theme and text for each year's observance of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity are chosen and prepared by representatives of the World Council of Churches and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.
The initial draft of material was prepared by and presented to the International Preparatory Group by Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute, New York, New York, USA. The U.S. planning group for 2008 consisted of Father James Loughran, SA, Director, Graymoor Ecumenical and Interreligious Institute; Dr Ann Riggs, Executive Director Faith and Order Commission of the National Council of Churches of Christ USA; Dr Keelan Downton, Doctoral Fellow; Reverend James Massa, Director Secretariat for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops; Ms. Susan Dennis, Former Executive Director, The Interchurch Center, New York, NY, USA.
The material was further adapted to its present form at a meeting of the International Preparatory Group appointed by the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity at its planning meeting held at Graymoor in Garrison, NY in September of 2006.
Graymoor Ecumenical and Interreligious Institute, in its planing of these resource materials also invites ecumenists and church leaders of various religious traditions to contribute resource materials for celebrating the Week of Prayer of Prayer for Christian Unity. Acknowledgment of these authors appears with their text.
