Since 1975, the theme and text for each year’s observance of the Week of Prayer have been chosen by the Christian churches and communities of a particular country and approved by an international committee whose members are appointed by the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. Each year the committee meets in a different location and divides into two working groups, French and English. A local ecumenical group prepares the initial draft, which is then finalized by the international committee.
